Bonaventure

Welcome to the website of Bonaventure, the only UK based re-enactment group specialising solely in the portrayal of English Seamen and their families from the late Tudor period, through the early Stuarts, to the Interregnum and the Commonwealth. A time which saw great seamen, the Elizabethan adventurers, the expansion of England's colonies to include parts of America, the Civil War and the daring exploits of men like Robert Blake.

Our aim is to represent as accurately as is possible the men and officers who sailed the oceans in this time, their families, and some of the civilians whose involvement in the navy was essential for its smooth running. In this aim we hope to both educate and entertain the public who come to see us at our "living history" events.

Many of our members have a number of years experience of Living History, most having been members of other re-enactment groups before Bonaventure was set up, but all who have an interest in what we do, regardless of experience, are welcome to join.

For the public we hope to provide a fun and enlightening day out, full of interesting characters, little known facts, and good representations of historical crafts and trades. For the sponsor we aim to be a relatively inexpensive, accurate and entertaining historical interpretation group. For our members we try to be a welcoming and friendly group, always willing to help new members, and always trying to make living history as fun for us as it is for our visitors.

Bonaventure members are also available as extras and advisors on television and film productions. Click here for more information.

In addition, Bonaventure are proud to present the annual South West Pirate Festival. Currently in its third year, this increasingly popular event now has its own page on our site. Just click the "SWPF" link in the menu below.

Update:
19/01/05: The 2005 Events list is complete! Until and unless we get any last-minute additions....
27/10/04: After another busy season, work on the site resumes. The 2005 Events list has begun to take shape, and we have a couple of new sites in the Links page.
